Description
Vineyards: 100% Grechetto grapes, from estate vineyards on the best locations within the Colli Martani DOC. Average age on the vines is 20-25 years, and the newer plantings are on a new closer planting regime (2.8 x .8), 9tons/Ha. Training is fan, double cordon, and spur pruned.
Winemaking process: Classic white-wine production, but with a soft pressing of whole grapes. Cold static decantation to clear the must and alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled (max. 18c) stainless steel tanks for approximately 15 days. Selected, aromatised yeasts are used. Five percent of the blend is from wine produced from carbonic maceration.
Annual production is about 50,000 bottles
Tasting Note
Tasting note: Intense, straw yellow colour, with a pale lemon rim. Great nose; very aromatic. Bold aromas and flavours of warm apple, pear, delicate flowers, and nuts (almonds). Full-bodied, dry, with balancing acidity and a long clean finish.
Serving temperature: 10-12c
Ageing: Enjoy now, and over the next 1-2 years.
About the Grape
Grechetto: Characterful white wine grape found mainly in Umbria. Its origins are Ancient Greek, brought to central Italy by the Etruscans. Intense in colour, and distinctively aromatic, wines made from this grape tend to stand out in a tasting. A great food wine.
Cantina Franco Todini
Cantina Franco Todini is situated in the heart of Umbria among the hills and green valleys that are rich with art and history, as well as natural beauty. The property is in the locality of Collevalenza di Todi -- one of the most fertile areas of Umbria -- within the Colli Martani D.O.C. zone, adjacent to that of "Montefalco" and of the "Colli Perugini".
Todini has over 300 hectares of fertile land and 25 hectares of D.O.C (Controlled Designation of Origin) vines. The company represents an excellent example of land management, carried out following cultivation techniques that have a low impact on the environment and with a perfect integration between farming activities and tourism. The particularly favourable microclimate, the adequate composition of the land, the care of the land and the care from the master vine-dressers have given rise to the cultivation of vines from which highly valued D.O.C. and I.G.T. wines are obtained. The winery is modern, including a beautiful barrel cellar for aging the top wines of the range.
